Our plantable cards are made with seed paper, which is embedded with a mix of wildflower seeds. Once the recipient has enjoyed the thoughtful message inside, they can plant the card to grow a beautiful selection of wildflowers. It’s a meaningful gift that keeps on giving, perfect for nature lovers and eco-conscious individuals alike.
Planting your card is easy and fun! Here’s a step-by-step guide to turning your card into a mini wildflower garden.
Planting Instructions
Soak the card in water for 30–60 minutes. This softens the paper and helps the seeds prepare for germination.
Prepare your seed tray: While the card is soaking, fill a seed tray or small pot with potting compost (normal compost will work fine). Level off the compost and water it lightly to create a moist planting base.
Place the card: Once soaked, tear the card into small pieces and place them on the compost. Gently press the pieces down but don’t cover them with compost – the seeds need light to germinate.
Create a greenhouse effect: Cover the tray with cling film or place it in a propagator. This keeps the environment warm and humid, helping the seeds sprout. Put the tray in a sunny spot, like a windowsill or conservatory.
Keep it moist: Check the tray regularly to ensure the card doesn’t dry out. If it looks dry, spray it gently with water. Do not over water!
Transplant your seedlings: Once the seedlings are well established, you can either transfer the whole lot to a bigger pot or carefully separate individual seedlings to grow in smaller pots.
Plant in the garden: When the plants are big enough, move them to your garden or outdoor space. Watch them bloom and enjoy the wildflowers!
